CVER Welcomes Canada Research Chair

Crawford RevieCrawford RevieDr. Crawford Revie has recently joined CVER as a Canada Research Chair in Population Health / Epi-informatics. Crawford comes to CVER from the University of Strathclyde (Scotland) where he pioneered the development of the emerging discipline of epi-informatics (the use of informatics techniques in epidemiology). Dr Revie has a Master's degree in computing science from the University of Sussex and a PhD in Statistics and Modelling Science from the U. of Strathclyde.

While Dr. Revie's pioneering work in this field was linked to bovine and equine diseases, much of its recent development has involved the use of data on sea lice infestations on salmon farms to develop models to optimize treatments for the control of this parasite in Scotland, Norway and Chile. His work at UPEI will explore new ways to use information contained in databases linked to human and animal disease to ensure a better understanding of diseases and their transmission. These will include techniques such as data mining, knowledge management, data-driven modelling and semantic web technologies. His work has the potential to lead to improved monitoring and treatment strategies, as well as to more sustainable approaches to production in the livestock and aquaculture sectors.

Crawford, his wife Fiona and one of their three children (Jonathan) have settled in Charlottetown. Crawford brings a wealth of experience and new skills to CVER and he is going to be a great addition to the group. Welcome!
