Educating young people about aquaculture

Students at Bridgetown High School, Nova Scotia

Christine Paetzold, researcher in AVC's Department of Health Management, visited her former high school in Bridgetown, Nova Scotia, in June to present two guest lectures about Aquaculture. Two grade 11 classes, Oceanography and Biology, set aside class-time to learn about the concept of aquaculture, global trends, pros and cons of aquaculture, Canadian aquaculture products, and the PEI mussel industry. The talks were well received, and the Biology class was presented with an AVC poster to display in their classroom. Ms. Paetzold is the Project Manager of Module 3 of an Atlantic Innovation Fund project conducted by the Shellfish Research Group under the direction of Dr. Jeff Davidson.
