New OIE guide for Aquatic Health Surveillance now available

An OIE Guide for Aquatic Animal Health Surveillance is now available thanks to the collaborative efforts of a group of international aquatic health experts.

The guide, which is co-authored by AVC's Dr. Larry Hammell (Director of AVC's Centre for Aquatic Health Sciences, Professor of Epidemiology, and Innovation PEI Innovation Research Chair in Epidemiology for Aquatic Food Animal Production), has been more than two years in the making. It is intended for use by veterinarians and other experts for designing, implementing and evaluating surveillance systems for diseases of relevance for aquatic animals throughout the world.

Dr. Hammell and co-authors, Flavio Corsin, Marios Georgiadis, and Barry Hill, are all members of the OIE (World Health Organization for Animals) subgroup for Aquatic Animal Health Surveillance. The OIE will formally launch the guide in Paris in February.
