Welcome to the Centre for Veterinary Epidemiological Research (CVER), a centre of expertise established by the Board of Governors of the University of Prince Edward Island in March 2007. The breadth and depth of expertise within CVER makes it one of the leading centres for animal health epidemiological research in the world. 

Epidemiology is the study of health and disease in populations of animals (or humans). Epidemiological research is carried out in populations in their natural settings (“research in the real world”). CVER brings together a large number of individuals involved with population based research at UPEI and affiliated organizations.

CVER conducts strategic research for food-producing industries and affiliated organizations, regionally and nationally. Whether it is a partnership with dairy producers across the country in a large mastitis research project or salmon farmers in the region working on disease control programs, partnerships are the hallmark of CVER research. This partnership is now being extended to work with regulatory authorities on animal health issues of national importance.

CVER is also home to an active graduate program in epidemiology and health management. (Health management is the application of results from epidemiological research to preventive medicine programs). While the focusof CVER is on production animal health, CVER actively collaborates with, and supports, researchers working in animal welfare, companion animal health, human health and social sciences. Individuals interested in the activities of CVER are invited to contact us at cver@upei.ca .
